Artist's Statement:
This sculpture is a visual statement about the forced containment of Indigenous peoples within the rigid architecture of colonial systems. The figure emerges from a structure that symbolizes institutional control—walls not just of wood and clay, but of ideology, borders, and imposed identity. This form speaks to the historical and ongoing reality of being gathered, confined, and locked into a foreign construct—one designed without consent and with no apparent exit.
There is strength in the face, but also resignation—a tension between endurance and erasure. Through this piece, I aim to confront the viewer with the quiet violence of systems that continue to shape lives, land, and legacy.
